NOW the 16th:
Attended the 15ThousandFarmers “15th Day” event last night. I was again impressed by the knowledge of Blair Helvey, of Entomology Solutions, who discussed the use of beneficial insects, companion planting, and the use of native plants to combat pests. Check out her website at www.BugsBehavingBadly.com.

Robert is doing other work for hire. He is becoming a good painter, working for Painting The Town. In addition he does small job contract repair work. Please give CART a call (502) 509-6521 if interested in using his contract services.

NOW April 15th:
Today is Tax Day in US, if not for the deadline being moved to Monday – April 18th, because of some holiday in Washington, D.C.

I have wanted to really get out in the garden – and will – after I get my taxes done. That means next week.

CART-Ent LLC personnel attended a 15Thousand FARMERS organizational meeting this past Saturday morning. Organizers Gary Heine, Valerie Kausen and Steve Vice did a great job turning out the Future Farmers of Louisville, and the turnout was outstanding and almost overwhelming. There were from 150-200 persons attending with standing room only, where maybe 50 had been expected. A shout out of GREAT GREEN! goes to all who attended, as well as the organizers.

We also attended “Transition Louisville” to make a presentation Sunday evening. This is a great organization, helping to connect Louisville citizens.

Look for an upcoming Courier-Journal article. CART-Ent personnel were interviewed in our demonstration garden yesterday afternoon. We were told that Gary Heine was also interviewed and this article should appear in the Wednesday, March 3rd editions of the Crescent Hill and Highlands Neighborhood sections.

What’s Louisville’s Story

I am looking for a link to a “Dan Rather Reports” episode which relates to Hardwick Vermont. Robert discovered the report on this Vermont community which is attempting to create a Greater Hardwick Food System, with different components such as The Center for an Agricultural Economy (Monty Fisher, Director), Pete’s Greens and High Mowing Organic Seeds.

A NYTimes article covers the Hardwick Vermont food system, highlighting the components mentioned in the previous paragraph, plus other links.

Where can I find ideas and help on putting together the same story for Louisville, Kentucky? Please join in with your ideas through comments.

Is there a wiki already available for Louisville to cooperatively write its own story? If so please comment. TD

I’ve Started My Seeds

An article in the Courier Journal indicates there may be a shortage of seeds this year. I experienced this when I went to one garden shop and could not find cabbage seeds.

Finally, started the following seeds this evening.
